Description
The Department of Periodontics is potentially engaged in the educational, research, and service missions of the College of Dentistry, FIU region of Iraq. As an integral unit of the Dental College, Department of Periodontics collaborates with other departments of the college of dentistry to provide optimal oral health care to the patients in order to meet the needs of the population of Sulaimani
Vision
The Department of Periodontics provides instruction and clinical experience dealing with the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the periodontium in adults.
Our syllabus comprises under-graduate and postgraduate programs. Our undergraduate program includes a theoretical and clinical curriculum during fourth and fifth year of their study which comprises 2 hours theory per week and four hours clinical per week.
On completion of BDS study, students must:
- Be able to diagnose, prevent and deal with all periodontal conditions or refer to a specialist;
- Have clinical skills that make them competent to treat patients with other coexisting chronic conditions that are independent of each other or are associated with the periodontal condition,
- Be able to manage the increased expectations held by the aging population;
- Be aware that a specialist periodontal programme can be used in treatment of difficult, complex cases.
