The Department of Geotechnical Engineering is a vital and ever-expanding field dedicated to understanding the behavior of earth materials and their applications in building safe, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure. As one of the core disciplines in civil and environmental development, our programs evolve continuously to meet the growing needs of urban expansion, construction industries, and national infrastructure projects.
Students in the Geotechnical Engineering department will gain the knowledge and skills needed to address complex challenges such as soil stability, foundation design, slope analysis, ground improvement, and environmental geotechnics. By combining scientific principles with practical applications, our students are prepared to play a key role in shaping the built environment of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Geotechnical Laboratory
Our department provides high-quality instruction supported by modern laboratory facilities specialized in soil mechanics and foundation engineering. The Geotechnical Laboratory is equipped with advanced tools that allow students to perform experiments such as soil classification, compaction, consolidation testing, shear strength analysis, and permeability studies. These hands-on experiences deepen their understanding of theoretical concepts and prepare them for real-world engineering applications.
